ISO 26001
ISO 26000 (often mistakenly searched for as ISO 26001) is an international guideline for corporate social responsibility (CSR). It provides guidance on how organizations can act transparently and ethically to contribute to sustainable development. It is not certifiable, but rather a guideline for seven core areas.
Here are the key aspects of ISO 26000 (and related concepts):
Content & Core Areas: The standard covers seven core areas: governance, human rights, labor practices, environment, fair business practices, consumer concerns, and community engagement and development.
No Certification: ISO 26000 is explicitly not intended for certification purposes. Offering certification to “ISO 26000” is misleading.
Distinction from ISO 26001: While ISO 26000 is the guideline, “ISO 26001” is occasionally used as a term for specific, often national or privately initiated certification standards based on the principles of ISO 26000.
Application: It is suitable for all types of organizations, regardless of size or location.
Benefits: It helps establish CSR strategies, improves public image, and promotes respect for human rights. In summary: DIN ISO 26000:2020 is the official guideline, while “ISO 26001” is often used as a designation for a certification derived from it.
